Third Culture Bakery on Behance
Chef Sam Butarbutar and Wenter Shyu acquire the well-known dessert chain Third Culture Bakery. They started the business in 2016, intending to be open to everyone and accept differences. Their most popular products, like the Original Mochi Muffin and butter mochi donuts, are based on what the founders did as kids growing up in a different culture than their parents. The bakery's story began when Chef Sam and Winter fell in love and decided to start a business together. At first, only six wholesale coffee shops bought their most popular item, the Mochi Muffin. But the muffin immediately became a huge hit, and the business grew quickly. In just one year, they were able to hire their first employee. By 2018, they had over 60 wholesale locations and a team of more than 20 full-time bakers, delivery drivers, retail associates, and managers. The founders of Third Culture loved the pastries they ate growing up in Indonesia and Taiwan, which is how their signature products came to be. Chef Sam made the Mochi Muffin after his mother used to make an Indonesian dessert. The outside of the muffin is slightly crunchy, and the inside is chewy. It tastes richly of brown butter, caramel, and cocon
